Prof. Mathias Breitschaft was a choir boy with the world famous
"Regensburger Domspatzen". Later, during his studies of school music at the State Music Academy in Frankfurt, his teachers were Prof. Helmut Rilling and Prof. Kurt Hessenberg. He also studied singing with Prof. Martin Gruendler.
In 1973 he became the director of the "Limburger Domsingknaben" with whom he won prizes in the 1st German Choir Copmpetition and in the International Choir Competition in Celje (former Yugoslavia).

Since 1985 Prof. Mathias Breitschaft has been the chief musical director at Mainz Cathedral. He took over the direction of the "Mainzer Domchor", a boys' choir. He founded the "Mainzer Domorchester" and the "Mainzer Domblaeser" as well as the "Domkantorei St. Martin" and the "Maedchenchor am Mainzer Dom und St. Quintin", a girls' choir.
Occasionally the "Domkammerchor" performs under his direction.-

Prof. Mathias Breitschaft is a teacher of choral direction and choral singing with children and youths at the State Academy of Music in Mainz.
He was awarded the Peter-Cornelius-Medal of Rheinland-Pfalz and the Johannes-Gutenberg-Statuette of the City of Mainz.
